Frequently Asked Questions
1. How Can I find something in a list this huge?!?
Use your Browsers "Find" command, usually located in your Edit menu.
Or you can use the table of contents at the top of the page. If you
can't find something, post a message in the guestbook and maybe someone
will reply, or e-mail me and i'll try to find it.
2. What is Running Amuck! and how did it start?
Running Amuck started as a simple list of running links I started when
I came to Cal Poly SLO to get my Masters Degree in Kinesiology, which I
earned in August 1997. I taught myself HTML and made improvements along
the way. People kept sending me links to add and soon it exploded to over
500 links. Running Amuck! is different from other "Links" pages in that
you start a new browser window when you select a link so you easily come
back without reloading the entire page and wasting your time. If you have
suggestions, please E-mail
them to me.
3. Isn't it suppose to be Running Amok?
Actually, several of my concerned web surfers out there have brought this
up. There are two spellings for the word. Amok is a variant of Amuck. The
dictionary defines Amuck as "In a frenzy to do violence or kill; in a jumbled
or faulty manner; crazed with murderous frenzy." I thought long and hard
about what to name my site when the time came to advertise it. Other thoughts
were, "Running Crazy" (too close to going crazy), "Gone Running", and others.
4. How can I get my site listed on Running Amuck and how long does it
take?
Just e-mail me the link
of your page. If you want a specific description, let me know. I will not
post it unless the page actually works (no server problems). It will take
me about a week to post it usually, depending on my schedule.
5. Who pays for Running Amuck! and can I advertise on it?
I pay for the ISP space and donate my precious time to keep it updated.
I am always looking for sponsors to advertise on it. Burst handles the advertising for me and I make very little, if nothing from it.
6. How often is the page updated?
I update the page whenever needeed or when I post a new site or take
one off. The Javascript date at the top of the page tells you when I last
added or deleted something. About 2-3 times a year, I go through the entire
list and check every link to make sure it works and goes where it should.
This process usually takes the entire weekend.
7. What is my background with running?
I have been runnning since my Sophomore year in H.S. (1984). I ran
in junior college and college competing in the 5000m, 10,000m, and 3000m
steeplechase. I got my BA in Physical Education in 1991 and my MS in Kinesiology
in 1997. I want to coach Cross Country and Track at the college level and
have been an assistant coach since 1991. I know more about running a Cross
Country and Track meet than most people and I am writing a meet management
book to prove it. I am also a sales consultant for FinishLynx
timing equipment. I have directed televised meets and worked at USATF National
meets. My one major race that I love to run every year is Wharf to Wharf
in Santa Cruz, CA.
